Zdeněk Macháček – City of Z

The monograph Zdeněk Macháček – City of Z presents a comprehensive view of the extensive and multi-layered work of the Zlín painter, draftsman, graphic artist, photographer, creator of multimedia installations and graphic designer Zdeněk Macháček.

The 320-page publication brings rich visual documentation as well as professional and literary texts that map the author’s development from the 1980s to the present day across various media. Special attention is paid to the author’s relationship to Zlín as a city that fundamentally influenced his artistic language and thematic direction.

The publication was created in collaboration with the author and curator of the modern art collection of the Olomouc Museum of Art, Ladislav Daňek. The essays by thirteen authors, supplemented by poetry, reveal various interpretative levels of Zdeněk Macháček’s work and place it in a broader cultural and artistic context.

The monograph thus serves not only as an artistic balance publication on the occasion of the author’s life anniversary, but also as a valuable source of education in the field of contemporary art. The publication was published by the Václav Chad Gallery in Zlín. The graphic design and print production are the work of STUDIO 6.15 s. r. o. in Zlín.
